Summer Assignment Entry Four

The reason for choosing this particular novel of the choices from on the list would had to be because of it genera. The main reason would had to have be that there weren’t actually any other book in the list that was of this genera. So the reason for being drawn to this book is that it was fiction and because it is an action thriller book so the possibilities for thing to happen when you first reading it is endless. So that is why those kind of book get my attention also hoe since it is a thriller it can have a lot of parts that will just leave you hanging and sometimes make you a little exited to read on. There weren’t any real personal connections that I had with the book after reading it. If I were to recommend this book to anyone it would be a person that is into action thriller books because of how the book has some sense in it that are either vary suspenseful do to the thriller aspect. Also do to those parts with the violins or a little gore or violins in it do to the action part of the book.           

Summer Assignment Entry Three

A section of my book in the Ship Breaker that I thought was the most interesting in the book was at the beginning. It was at either the part when Nailer almost died in the oil tanker by drowning in oil or at the part where Nailer first met Nita. I personally thought the best part was when Nailer first met Nita on the clipper ship. It happened a few days after Nailer almost died in the oil tanker, the problem was that what happened was that there was a treble storm that lasted two days and two night. Everything on the beach was destroyed; people’s body’s all along the beach and in the tree line. Then after the storm had pasted Nailer and Pima who was a good friend to Nailer searched the coastline searching for something of value came across the thing they least expected to ever find, it was a clipper ship. When Nailer and Pima searched the ship for anything of value they came across a girl that they thought to be dead but found she was still breathing when they tried to take the Jules off of her. Prim wanted to kill her fearing that if they help her she would take everything that they got from the ship because it was owned by her. But Nailer wanted to save her in doing so Nita would repay them but he also had doubt that she would just leave them the first chants she got. But as Nailer was staring into the droning girl’s eyes, they might as well have been his own.              

Summer Assignment Entry Two

For the complexity of the characters, each one of them wants a better life but each in a very different way. The thing that Bapi want or desires is to be rich so he doesn’t have to work. For Nailer he wants a life of no worries, one that he can call his own and be able to do what he wants. For Moon Girl, Tick-tock and Prima they won’t essentially the same thing that Nailer wants which is to have a life in where a person doesn’t have to be worked to the bone everyday just to survive. For Nailer’s farther, the thing he wants the most is just to get his hands on another drink to “waste himself.” Sloth just wants to find a way to get by without dying in the process ever since she was kicked off the light-crew for leaving Nailer to die.  The theme of the book is loyalty, because it is presented almost immediately in the beginning of the story. Crew members must always have each other's backs, and take blood oaths to swear their allegiance to each other. Despite these oaths, which are desperately needed if one wants to survive life on the beach, loyalty can never be trusted until it's tested. As Nailer says, “there's a difference between crew members who have proved their loyalty for years breaking ships, and the crew who have just made their blood oath; their loyalty hasn't been tested yet.” Sloth proves his loyalty to Bapi by refusing to steal the first Lucky Strike - the oil pocket - from him. He is rewarded by the Fates with his life. Sloth, on the other hand, goes against her blood oath in the hopes of getting rich, and is rewarded.

Summer Assignment Entry One

The two main characters in Ship Breaker are Nailer and Nia. The book also has other character that are important, such as Bapi, Prima, Tick-tock, Moon Girl, Sloth and Nailer’s farther. All of these people are part of the light-crew with Nailer at the beginning of the book before he meets Nia. They also help Nailer by saving his life at one point and help with the decisions he will make throughout the book. The story takes place in America’s Gulf Coast region where grounded oil tankers are being broken down for parts and salvage. Nailer, a teenage boy, works the light crew, scavenging for copper wiring. One day after a horrific hurricane, Nailer discovers a clipper ship that is beached on the coast line with one survivor, Nia. Nailer faces the most important decision of his life: Strip the ship for all it’s worth, or rescue its lone survivor, a beautiful and wealthy girl who could lead him to a better life. I am predicting that Nailer will rescue Nia, the ships lone survivor and try to help here anyway he can. But I am not sure that Nailer is doing all of this just for his sake since he is not aware of who she actually is.

Text Relationship

There are many things throughout the book Catching Fire that can be relatable to you the reader, to another text, and to the world itself. A text to text connection that can be related to Catching Fire is the book Divergent. I say this because in the same concept of this book, a young girl named Tris must undergo vigorous trials and hardships to stay alive because of here being a divergent. This means that if the people in charge hear about this they will probably kill her, just like the capital is trying to kill Katniss but trying to make it look like an accident. A text-to-self connection that I have with the book is how she feels about some of the choices that she has to make. Manley the choices she has to make are ones she regrets or doesn’t want to but has to, but I bet that everyone can relate to this. The book also deals with text-to-world, and the way it does that is that life just isn’t fare to people. Some live better than others and or worst then others. Like how Katniss is going through the hunger games again and in real life people die from lots of stuff like war, famine, disease, and natural disasters. It’s all just who draws the shortest straw will be the unlucky one in the situation. 

     

Characters Symbol

In the book Catching Fire each character has their own symbol to show or define who they are or what they do. For instants the symbol for Katniss (one of the main characters in the book) would be a mocking-jay pin. I chose to say this because before reaping day came Katniss got a pin from her grandmother that has been pasted down in her family for generations. Also the mocking-jay means a lot to her because it reminds her of Rue, a kid that she met in the Hunger Games and they looked out for each other but she died.

Another character with a symbol would be Peete (another main character of the book) which would have a symbol of an artistic piece of some sort. I say this because Peete has grown up living in a pastry shop/bread shop where he would always decorate any of the sweets. Also another reason is because ever sins after the Hunger Games Peete has been drawing and painting the memories and moments while he and Katniss where in the Hunger Games.      

Prediction of Catching Fire

It seems so far that katniss has a lot to deal with, like with President Snow threatening to kill her and all of her love ones plus trying to go on the tower of the victors of the Hunger Games and trying to prove to President Snow that she likes Peeta even though she like Gale. All this is stressing her out and she doesn’t know what to do interlay. Right now in the book she has started the tower of the victors and in district 11 Rue’s home. Rue is the little girl that was one of the tribunes for the hunger games and Katniss became friends with. Katniss is scared to meet Rue’s parents because she wasn’t able to save her so right now she is scared.

Beginning setting of Catching Fire

In the beginning of Catching Fire it starts out by telling us that Katniss is on her way back to District 12. Also how she is feeling after the Hunger Games, “My muscles are clenched tight against the cold. If a pack of wild dogs were to appear at this moment, the odds of scaling a tree before they attack are not in my favor.” At this part of the book you can tell how Katniss hasn’t gotten over the fact of the dramatic sense of the Hunger Games and how it almost killed her and Peeta with the deaths of some friend that she made with another tribune. Also how now she have’s to now go on a parade like thing to other districts       

Why I chose the book Catching Fire

The reason I chose the book Catching Fire is that I was very interested in reading it. The reason for this is because I have read the first one and then got a little exited to read the next book in the series because the first book was very interesting to me and grabbed my attention. For me it isn’t often for a book to be able to get my attention the way this book did. The way it got my attention was what was happening in the book of how different factions had to fight. I really like that kind of stuff in a book with action and advancer. I think it just makes the book more enjoyable to read. Plus I’ve seen the movie and generally the book is better than the movie and the movie was pretty good so I have hi hopes for this book .  

How the auther built suspens

The way the author built suspense in the book Divergent is by putting the main character Tris in many dire situations where it would leave the reader wondering what will happen next. One situation where this happens is at the beginning of the book when Tris had to take the aptitude test that will decide what faction she would go into. "The dog turns. Instead of growling, t barks and snarls and snaps, and its muscles bunch up like coiled wire. About to pounce. I don't think, I just hurl my body on top of the dog, wrapping my arms around its thick neck,"(Pg. 16). At this moment when I was reading the book I didn't know what was going to happen and it made me so interested that it was impossible for me to stop reading. Also later on in the book when other suspenseful parts come up I am totally inhanst into the story that it is difficult for me to stop reading and with all of this I think it helps the story be a bit more exiting.   

Dynamic Character Changes

The way the main character Tris has changed sins from the beginning of the book is that she is a lot more violet’s in her. Ever sins she has become a dauntless they have been training her hard to become as strong as she can be by having the other people fight each other. She has also gone through some pretty tuff and crazy training by here overseer Four. “Since when does “overseeing” include throwing knives at me and scolding me at every opportunity,” (pg. 181). That was a brief explanation of Tris’s training that she has had to go through. Another thing that has also made Tris the way she is that she also had to prove herself to the dauntless born (people born in the dauntless faction) that there is more to her to make herself one of them. “We’re going to slide down a steel cable in a black sling from one thousand feet up,” (pg.218). This was one of the thing that Tris has had to go through to prove herself to be like the dauntless born. So with all of the thing that she has been through it has dramatically changed her and a bit of her personality ever sins she has picked to become a dauntless.

The best thing about the book

The best thing about my book that I like is probably has to be the anticipation and or exiting events or violent happens in the book. One quote from the text that better helps the reader understand what I am talking about is when Tris is taking the test that will decide what faction she will be put in. During the test one of the trials in the simulation is how she would react to a dog running and growling at a little girl. “I didn’t think, I jump; I hurl my body on top of the dog, wrapping my arms around its thin neck,”(Pg. 16). At this point it got very interesting for me to read on to see what will happen.
